Ronnie,
Arranging the driver in a line array is a fierily straight forward thing. Also be advised that the arrays will less likely work across a short wall, and you need to use a long wall. Generally it is imposable to advise anything as any rooms a...
Regarding the other questions you asked, I am basically duplicating Romy's system as my starting point with horns.
Yes, as you can see my approach is also very similar. Two major differences: TH and Fundamental frequency r...

The station that I most listen to is 105.9 MHz that broadcasts from one location 50 miles away at 100kW power and that is detected by 2 FM aerials mounted as a parallel array with rotator and ~ 40 feet of coaxial cable to the TU-X1. T...

I have just started thinking of something like this for midbass/ULF: floor firing one-eigth horn (TuneAudio Anima inspired) with the scanspeak array (in green) attached to the side. There is the obvious problem of time alignment, but I can see no wa...

I have not tried this yet, but it looks very promising.
Studer makes a wide range of off grid solutions. One example is used for sensitive recording, a Studer AJ400 pure sine wave inverter connected to a car (or better quality) battery putting out ...

In MiniMe, after study all recommendations and talking with a number of port speaker manufactures I decided to go a simplest route. It will be one single port at the bottom. What pervaded me was the Precision Port Company. Then make 2” port with 4” a...

Once you figure out where you want the LF drivers you could put them in a "cabinet" of lesser dimension and run that "cabinet" through the floor, using the basement, or part of it, for more volume/IB. That could "solve" the IB footprint problem, and...

Angelo,
I care less about the “commercially available” objectives, honestly it is too boring.
However, whatever you do not be distracted that what you are making will be reminding Avantgardes. The Avantgarde Trio Classic (in vertical configuration)...

Do you have the speakers as pictured already in place, or at least in the form your beautiful rendering shows? I would recommend to try a mock up of this layout in your room and not proceed with the full custom build. For example, I don't think the a...

I got what you mean. It is one of those things I really would like to try as well. When I started my project, I was going to have an array of scanspeak drivers but I had problems with the distributor here. It was then I got the Tad's and went 16" ins...
Here is my response for the Supravox 285-2000 in 110cf tractrix. I designed a sealed chamber and with the qtc 0.707 it is tuned to 160hz. However I hope the modified version will be even better!
I think that Group Delay an...

Hi Murataltuev,I have two horn based systems but the system that is similar to yours or Romy's is the one I am currently building. The drivers and horns are as follows.38hz - 160hz - Tad 1601b - Bass Array (4)160hz - 600hz - Supravox 285-2000 hornfab...

lately I've come to theorize that the horn midbass may be a contadictive dead end approach. The reason is that proper horn midbass (lets say 80 to 400Hz) will be a big one and present a few inherent "brick walls". It will physically shade the midrang...

wrong, it was sounding fine and was blending well. Now, I have spacious sound
Romy, it would be interesting to test whether it is really that impossible to get into the near field at 30 Hz as Griffin's simple formula in the line array white paper implies. I am thinking about laying the arrays on the ground,...

I hope you do find some amplification that works, or new "way" of using the tannoy, as these driver still have several tricks up their sleeves, especially when compared to the hordes of mass crap that's for sale. What you refer to as the "deen ...

Hafler, Carver, polk and most professional mastering has a technique that actually came from MS recording techniques. A MS microphone array has a "mono" microphone and a figure 8 bipole microphone above it. The stereo spread is controlled by altering...

Beautiful post, rowuk. Very thoughtful, very considered. I have a slightly different take on the situation. Let's illustrate the point with the original poster's own words. First he says:"What distinguishes my project from most is that I wish to i...

Here is the set up working on trying to lower mechanical excursion w/o using large horns:5 way system. Crossover points are 40, 100, 750, 7500 the vertical JBL array 1400 mid horns have a horn tweeter built into their top. Yes the 15-40 Hz channel a...

Actually those fantasies may come true one day...I may be wrong, but I thinkthe tube-speaker interface is more important than sticking to 2 stage topology?2 stage => high-mu output tube => high Rp, low controll over the array. But, if you insist...

I come up with the idea to introduce 6th channel and add bass array in between tapped horn and upperbass horn. Benefits:1. I can use 1st order lowpass for Tapped Horn at 15-20Hz2. 30Hz+ range become time-aligned3. I don't need to go very low with upp...

I don't think you can align the tapped horn. My tapped horn has a total length around 5 metres. To time align that with my other drivers, its got to be around 5 metres closer than others. The only other solution is delaying the rest of the channels.....
Now if you design a TH for 70 hz, you can use it from 35 hz up to 140 hz, and that could match up to your 142hz front Upper Bass horn. With this solution you completely eliminate the need for a Folded horn midbass channel, that ...

Romy, Can you expand a little more on what the issue with dipole bass is and what it does incorrectly? I'm still not sure I know exactly what you mean (and I've had a look at some of your other comments on the site). What sonic aspects in particular? ...

Man would I love to visit the MIT fleamarket... only a few thou miles away alas.Well, I'm not advocating A2 in any way. The 13E1 will happily run at lower anode voltages but you won't get enough A1 power out, which is a shame cos you'll need a new po...

One other nice thing about floor or ceiling-mounting the lower-bass horns is that you wouldn't need such a huge living room; the space would be easier to load (sonically), and you'd have a much easier time finding an appropriate house. Romy wrote :"....
